Why it can work

  • Low brand or licence risk if the design is your own

Why it might fail

  • Under $2 estimated profit per print hour

Be aware before you sell

Check whether the file allows selling prints, since many terrain designers sell commercial use as a separate subscription. Barrels and crates are generic objects, so the main risk is copying a designer's files rather than any brand. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

This is low risk and easy to design yourself, but single items sell for little. It works as themed bundles with a clear table look, and fails as loose pieces that compete on price.

How the score adds up

The score is our estimate from public prices and signals, not sales data. Evidence confidence: medium.

Competition

Public signals suggest medium competition.

Make it your own
  • Design for one game format, not one franchise
  • Use your own creature or theme, never a brand name
  • Sell it finished and painted at a higher price
