Where each $84.00 sale goes

Filament, power, your time $54.38Marketplace fees $11.38Left from this sale $49.25

One sale ties up the printer for about 79 hours. $49.25 ÷ 79 h = $0.62 per print hour.

At the mid price, if it sells. Shipping not included.

Why it can work

  • Low brand or licence risk if the design is your own

Why it might fail

  • Under $2 estimated profit per print hour
  • Thin public evidence, so treat these numbers with care

Be aware before you sell

Confirm a commercial licence, because one Etsy designer states that selling prints needs a separate monthly licence and others offer it only on request. Generic buildings carry little brand risk, though sellers should avoid names tied to game factions and should not copy a designer's kit. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

High tickets exist, but long prints, breakage in transit and shipping size eat into the margin. It works with made-to-order kits and original designs, and fails if stock ties up the printer for days.

Competition

Public signals suggest medium competition.

Make it your own
  • Design for one game format, not one franchise
  • Use your own creature or theme, never a brand name
  • Sell it finished and painted at a higher price
