Why it can work

  • Low brand or licence risk if the design is your own
  • Seasonal demand: Before craft-fair and Christmas market season, my estimate

Why it might fail

  • No major warning found, test small first

Be aware before you sell

The Thangs file states a commercial licence; check every other file, since most are personal use. Low unless a seller copies another maker's distinctive display design. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

Buyers are other businesses who often need many units in one colour, so order value is higher than for one-off gifts. It works with matte finishes and bulk sets, and fails against $12 acrylic stands if it looks like raw plastic.
