Filament, power, your time $3.94Marketplace fees $1.59Left from this sale $6.47

One sale ties up the printer for about 0.65 hours. $6.47 ÷ 0.65 h = $9.95 per print hour.

At the mid price, if it sells. Shipping not included.

Why it can work

  • Estimated $9.95 profit per print hour
  • Low brand or licence risk if the design is your own
  • Seasonal demand: Spring and summer, my estimate

Why it might fail

  • Crowded market, so prices can fall fast

Be aware before you sell

Many cycling mount files are free for personal use only, so check commercial terms. Say 'Garmin compatible' and avoid logos; bike makers can protect their own bar and stem shapes. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

Parts are tiny and fast to print, but cyclists are at home with free files and brands now sell printed mounts directly. It works for bars or frames with no good mount, and fails on any part that can drop a costly computer; prices came from one brand page.

Make it your own
  • Serve one niche, like one car model or tool brand
  • Measure a real fit and show it in your photos
