Where each $32.50 sale goes

Filament, power, your time $5.23Marketplace fees $4.25Left from this sale $30.52

One sale ties up the printer for about 3 hours. $30.52 ÷ 3 h = $10.17 per print hour.

Why it can work

  • Few sellers compared with other products
  • Estimated $10.17 profit per print hour
  • Seasonal demand: Spring restoration season, my estimate

Why it might fail

  • Copying a functional old part is usually lower risk than a logo, but the brand name can still trigger a claim, as in Honda's 2022 takedown
  • Thin public evidence, so treat these numbers with care

Be aware before you sell

Few ready files exist, so most sellers scan or model the part themselves and must not reuse OEM drawings. Copying a functional old part is usually lower risk than a logo, but the brand name can still trigger a claim, as in Honda's 2022 takedown. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

Buyers compare against scarce originals, so price is not the main objection and competition is thin. It works as sets of small non-safety clips sold through owner forums, and fails on heat, UV or anything structural; the $30 is one anecdote per part from a vendor page.
