Why it can work

  • Very low unit cost
  • Clubs and events order in batches
  • Confirmed printed sellers at $5 to $10

Why it might fail

  • Commercial minis cost about $3
  • Small total market

Be aware before you sell

Design your own, since a mini is simple to model. Disc maker logos are trademarked, so club logos need permission. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

Printed minis already sell for several times their material cost, and clubs and tournaments buy in batches. It works through custom club or event orders, and fails if sold as plain discs against $3 commercial minis.

Competition

Disc brands and a small group of hobby printers sell minis, so the field is active but not saturated.
