Why it can work

  • Seasonal demand: Christmas gift season (my judgement, not measured)

Why it might fail

  • The sculpts belong to designers such as Fates End and Unchained Games, and listing titles stuffed with Dungeons and Dragons wording add trademark exposure

Be aware before you sell

Check the merchant terms of the exact collection, because some merchant licences are tied to one campaign, and use your own titles without D&D wording. The sculpts belong to designers such as Fates End and Unchained Games, and listing titles stuffed with Dungeons and Dragons wording add trademark exposure. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

Jails print faster than towers and hold $20 to $35, so the margin per print hour looks better. It works as a bundle add-on under your own design or a valid licence, and fails if the listing depends on someone else's sculpt or on D&D wording.

Competition

Public signals suggest medium competition.

Make it your own
  • Design for one game format, not one franchise
  • Use your own creature or theme, never a brand name
  • Sell it finished and painted at a higher price
