Where each $141.25 sale goes

Filament, power, your time $36.67Marketplace fees $13.87Left from this sale $90.71

One sale ties up the printer for about 57 hours. $90.71 ÷ 57 h = $1.58 per print hour.

At the mid price, if it sells. Shipping not included.

Why it can work

  • Strong public demand signals
  • Seasonal demand: Halloween and convention season (my judgement, not measured)

Why it might fail

  • Crowded market, so prices can fall fast
  • Under $2 estimated profit per print hour
  • One Mandalorian file page says selling it breaches both the uploader's copyright and Disney's rights, and Lucasfilm v Ainsworth (UK 2011) let original Stormtrooper replicas stay on sale in the UK but found US copyright infringed, so it is no general shield and I found no record of Disney's enforcement

Be aware before you sell

A seller's 'commercial licence' from a file designer can only cover the designer's rights, never the franchise owner's. One Mandalorian file page says selling it breaches both the uploader's copyright and Disney's rights, and Lucasfilm v Ainsworth (UK 2011) let original Stormtrooper replicas stay on sale in the UK but found US copyright infringed, so it is no general shield and I found no record of Disney's enforcement. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

Demand and price are real, but the product is the franchise design itself, and long prints mean one takedown wastes a lot of work. Only an official licence would change this, so I left out example listings on purpose.

Competition

Public signals suggest high competition.
