Why it can work

  • Limited positive evidence so far

Why it might fail

  • Crowded market, so prices can fall fast
  • Wizards' fan content policy covers its creatures and bars its logos and trademarks without permission, and I could not confirm whether monsters like the beholder are open content or whether selling prints is ever allowed
  • Thin public evidence, so treat these numbers with care
  • No reliable public price found

Be aware before you sell

Assume no right to sell until Wizards' current fan policy and open content terms are read, since a fan-content label on a free file is not a licence to sell. Wizards' fan content policy covers its creatures and bars its logos and trademarks without permission, and I could not confirm whether monsters like the beholder are open content or whether selling prints is ever allowed. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

The audience is large, but the same buyers can be reached with generic fantasy designs and no D&D name. Use 'tabletop RPG' wording and original monsters instead, and only revisit this after a legal check of the open content terms.

Competition

Public signals suggest high competition.

We have not confirmed any yet.

Make it your own
  • Design for one game format, not one franchise
  • Use your own creature or theme, never a brand name
  • Sell it finished and painted at a higher price
Where to find 3D files

We do not link files for this product because of safety or brand risk.

Demand signals
  • Printables hosts a beholder file labelled as unofficial fan content source
