Where each $42.00 sale goes

Filament, power, your time $8.36Marketplace fees $4.25Left from this sale $27.39

One sale ties up the printer for about 6.51 hours. $27.39 ÷ 6.51 h = $4.21 per print hour.

At the mid price, if it sells. Shipping not included.

Why it can work

  • Business buyers pay for a branded counter
  • QR or logo upgrades add margin
  • Metal stands cost about $75

Why it might fail

  • Reader hardware changes shape
  • Light plastic stands can tip on a busy counter
  • Free files exist for the common readers

Be aware before you sell

At least one MakerWorld stand forbids selling printed versions, so design your own or confirm the licence. Square is a trademark, so use 'fits Square Reader' wording and only add a logo the customer owns. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

Small sellers buy these as a business expense, and logo or QR personalisation adds a paid upgrade that a steel stand lacks. The $75 top of the range is a steel stand, so printed stands sit nearer $25, and it fails if a new reader shape arrives and the old stock no longer fits.

Competition

Metal stand resellers and a few Etsy makers sell these, so it looks moderately busy with room for custom branded versions.
