Why it can work

  • Low brand or licence risk if the design is your own

Why it might fail

  • Crowded market, so prices can fall fast
  • Under $2 estimated profit per print hour

Be aware before you sell

Free models often forbid commercial use, so check each listing before selling prints. Fitted holders naming Samsung, Roku or Fire Stick must only use those brands to describe compatibility. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

The need is everyday, but the $14 to $19 band sits beside free models and leaves limited room. It works when fitted to a specific remote or matched to a furniture style, and fails as a generic box.

Competition

Public signals suggest high competition.

Make it your own
  • Design your own pattern or texture instead of a common file
  • Sell a matching set of three in colours you choose
  • Offer one custom colour or size on request
