Why it can work

  • Low brand or licence risk if the design is your own

Why it might fail

  • Thin public evidence, so treat these numbers with care

Be aware before you sell

Paid urn files need a commercial licence checked per designer, and urn claims should state that plastic prints need a sealed inner container. Paw prints are generic, though breed-specific files and customer pet photos should be original or permitted. Etsy asks for your own original design, so a licensed file may not qualify.

How to get a file you may sell

  1. Make your own. Tinkercad is free and enough for simple shapes.
  2. Buy a commercial licence. Many designers on Cults3D, MyMiniFactory and Etsy sell one. Read what it allows.
  3. Use open licences. CC0 and CC BY allow selling prints. NC does not. Filter by licence on Printables or MakerWorld and keep a screenshot.

Our take

Conventional keepsake urns hold prices well above most prints, but I found few finished printed ones to prove buyers accept plastic. It works with careful finishing and a sealed insert, and fails if it looks cheap.

Competition

Public signals suggest medium competition.

Make it your own
  • Add a name, date or message buyers cannot get off the shelf
  • Pick one occasion and style, not a general gift
  • Package it ready to give, with a small card
